Brewster MA Newborn Beach Session | Brianna, Tyler & Baby Graham

And then the baby they had been waiting for stepped into the story we started a few months ago.

If you were here a few months ago, you might remember Brianna and Tyler from their maternity session with the golden bay light, the horses, the dogs, and that perfect Cape Cod evening. We knew even then that Graham was going to have some serious personality for his Brewster MA newborn beach session!

We had no idea.

Little oyster boy

Graham James arrived in July, and four weeks later his mama trusted me to take her brand new baby to the beach for his newborn session. On Cape Cod. In the sand and the salt air and the golden afternoon light.

I know. I love it too.

Brianna brought along the most perfect detail…an oyster print swaddle that a friend had gifted them. If you’ve ever wondered what the most Cape Cod newborn photo in existence looks like, scroll down. You’ll know it when you see it.
That swaddle, that sand heart, that face.

Graham had the most incredible thick dark hair that just stood straight up like he already had opinions about things. He was alert and curious and honestly a little bit sassy, which if you read the maternity post, you’ll know his mama called it from day one.

A Brewster MA newborn beach session. Yes, really.

I get asked sometimes whether taking a newborn to the beach is actually a good idea. For the right family, in the right conditions, with a photographer who knows what they’re doing, it is one of the most beautiful settings you can choose for a newborn session on Cape Cod.

Open sky, warm sand, marsh grass catching the late afternoon light. There is nothing like it.

Graham handled the whole thing like a complete pro.

Tyler and Graham

Some dads show up to newborn sessions and hang back a little, unsure what to do with something so small and new.
Tyler wasn’t that dad.

He held Graham like he’d been doing it his whole life. Steady, proud, completely at ease.

There’s a moment of the two of them, nose to nose in the marsh grass, wrapped up in that oyster swaddle, that I keep coming back to. It’s one of my favorites from this session.

And Graham, mid-yawn in his dad’s hands at golden hour, hair catching the light like he had somewhere better to be.
I mean… come on.

Brianna

Brianna was four weeks postpartum and completely herself.

There’s an image of her standing in the marsh at golden hour, holding Graham wrapped in his green swaddle, the sky lit up behind her.

She looks like herself. Not a version of herself for photos. Just her, holding her baby, exactly as she is right now.

That’s always the goal. No stiffness, no overthinking. Just real moments, in a place that feels like you.

Brianna gave me that completely.

The Driftwood Chair

One of my favorite details from this session was the little driftwood chair we used for Graham’s solo portraits. Nestled right into the rocks on the beach, it’s about as Cape Cod as it gets.

Graham sat in it like a tiny king with that incredible hair and adorable expression.

I don’t know how a four week old can look both ancient and brand new at the same time, but Graham absolutely managed it.

What Brianna Said

When I sent over the gallery, Brianna’s response was “THESE ARE BEYOND INCREDIBLE OHHH MY HEART” and honestly that’s everything.

She texted me the sand heart photo separately and said “this one is just so amazing omg I want to show everyone I know. Little oyster boy.”

That’s the goal every single time. Images so good you want to show everyone you know.

are you expecting and thinking of something like this?

A Brewster MA newborn beach session isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay.

But if you’re someone who feels most like yourself outside, who wants something that actually reflects your family instead of a setup, I’d love to talk.

Summer and early fall on Cape Cod fill quickly. If you’re due between May and October, it’s worth reaching out early, even if your due date still feels far away.
