Meet Alanna, Nick, and Vivienne
Alanna and Nick met me at a quiet Cape Cod beach with their daughter, Vivienne. She brought all the sparkle, with that unrestrained eagerness to head for the water that only toddlers can bring! They’re expecting their second baby, a little boy, due this August. But their journey to this point has included heartache.
Last fall, they experienced a miscarriage. They had planned to announce the pregnancy at their session with an ultrasound photo. Instead, they later shared the news through a Christmas ornament that read, “after every storm, there is a rainbow.”
A Rainbow Baby, A Beautiful Evening
This session was a celebration of that rainbow. As we wandered along the beach, the setting sun took on a deep red glow from the Canadian wildfire smoke drifting over the East Coast, casting everything in a surreal, beautiful haze. Alanna stepped barefoot into the tide pools with her hands resting on her bump, surrounded by the soft light and gentle waves. Nearby, Vivienne had been exploring the water and was now cuddled up with Nick, getting sleepy as the evening settled in.
Just as we wrapped up and began heading back to the car, Nick spotted a heart-shaped rock in the sand. Naturally, we paused for a few more photos. It was too perfect not to! The whole evening held a peaceful stillness, filled with quiet moments that felt both grounding and meaningful.

Alanna later shared that they had both felt the presence of the baby they lost during the session.
